Low FODMAP at Jack in the Box

Jack in the Box is more workable than it looks if you build around its plain-beef patties, regular fries, and hash browns — none of which contain wheat, onion, or garlic. The traps are everywhere else: the grilled chicken is seasoned with garlic and onion, every signature sauce (and even the ketchup) carries onion, garlic, or high fructose corn syrup, and all breads are wheat. Order bunless or lettuce-wrapped, stick to mustard and plain mayo, and skip anything "seasoned."

✅ Safest picks

12

Hash Browns

Just potatoes, oil, and salt — no wheat, onion, garlic, or dairy anywhere in the ingredient statement.

💬 Order it: Order as-is. Skip ketchup (it contains onion powder and high fructose corn syrup); a salt packet is all it needs.

20

French Fries

The coating is rice flour and potato/corn starch — no wheat, onion, or garlic, unlike most fast-food fries.

💬 Order it: Get regular fries only, never curly (those are coated in wheat, garlic, and onion powder). Skip the ketchup; note fries share a fryer with breaded items.

25

Side Salad

Iceberg lettuce, grape tomatoes, and a little shredded cheddar are all low-FODMAP; the add-ons are the problem.

💬 Order it: Ask for no croutons (wheat, garlic, and honey) and skip the creamy dressings (onion + garlic + buttermilk). A squeeze of mustard or a light drizzle of the balsamic vinaigrette is the least-loaded option.

32

Jumbo Jack

The patty is 100% plain beef with no seasoning blend, and lettuce, tomato, and pickles are all safe — the bun, onions, and ketchup are what you strip.

💬 Order it: Order it lettuce-wrapped or bunless, no onions, no ketchup. Mustard and plain mayo are the only condiments here with no onion, garlic, or HFCS.

38

Breakfast Jack

Egg, ham (or bacon), and one slice of American cheese are all low-FODMAP in normal amounts; only the bun is wheat.

💬 Order it: Ask for it without the bun (or eat it fork-and-knife style leaving the bread). Ham and bacon are both brine-preserved with only trace sugar — either works.

88

Two Tacos

The famous cheap tacos stack a wheat shell, soy-protein filling (a legume, high in GOS), onion and garlic powder in the meat seasoning, and a taco sauce made with dehydrated garlic and onion.

84

Sourdough Jack

The "sourdough" is standard wheat bread with a flavoring base and high fructose corn syrup — not a slow-fermented loaf — and the ketchup-mayo dressing adds HFCS and onion powder.

82

Seasoned Curly Fries

Unlike the regular fries, the curly-fry coating is wheat flour loaded with garlic powder and onion powder.

80

Egg Rolls

Real yellow onion is a main filling ingredient, wrapped in a wheat-flour skin with cabbage on top.

72

Grilled Chicken Salad

The "safe-sounding" pick is a stealth stack: the grilled chicken itself is seasoned with dehydrated garlic and onion powder, the croutons add wheat, garlic, and honey, and the default buttermilk dressing brings more onion, garlic, and dairy.

Good to know

  • Beef beats chicken here: the burger patties are plain beef with no seasoning, while both grilled and crispy chicken are seasoned or breaded with garlic and onion powder.
  • Order on the app or kiosk so removals actually register: no bun (or lettuce wrap), no onions, no ketchup, no signature sauce.
  • Mustard and plain mayonnaise are the only condiments free of onion, garlic, and HFCS — every signature sauce (Good Sauce, Secret Sauce, buttermilk, chipotle ranch, BBQ, taco sauce) contains garlic and/or onion.
  • Ketchup is a hidden double-hit: high fructose corn syrup plus onion powder — skip it even on fries.
  • Regular fries and hash browns are the safe sides; anything "seasoned," "loaded," or "crispy" means wheat plus garlic-onion seasoning.
  • For drinks, fountain sodas run on high fructose corn syrup and shakes are built on milk and whey — unsweetened iced tea or water is the cleaner pour.
