Is Amy's Bean & Cheese Burrito low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
88
High FODMAP
No — this one stacks four separate FODMAP groups into a single 6-ounce package, and three of them sit right at the top of the label. The very first ingredient is organic pinto beans, one of the most concentrated sources of GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides) in published FODMAP research — and in a bean burrito the dose is the whole point, not a garnish. The wrap is made from organic unbleached wheat flour plus organic whole wheat flour, which makes wheat a main ingredient here rather than a minor thickener; that is a meaningful fructan serving all on its own. Then the mild Mexican-style sauce inside is built on organic yellow onions and finished with organic garlic — both trigger-level fructan sources at any realistic amount, and both cooked through the filling where you can't eat around them. The good news, such as it is: the dairy is friendlier than you'd expect. White cheddar and Monterey Jack are both naturally low-lactose cheeses, so the "cheese" half of the name isn't the problem — bean, wheat, onion and garlic are. The tomato purée and bell peppers at these amounts are comfortable for most people following a low-FODMAP approach. There's no portion trick that rescues this one, either: even half a burrito still delivers beans, wheat tortilla, onion and garlic together in every bite. If you're in the strict elimination phase, skip it entirely. If you're deliberately rechallenging GOS and already know wheat, onion and garlic sit fine with you personally, it's a well-made organic option — but for the typical sensitive gut, this is one of the higher-FODMAP items in the frozen aisle.
What's inside
📏 One 6 oz (170 g) burrito is the labeled serving and how it's actually eaten. There's no portion workaround: beans, wheat tortilla, onion and garlic run through every bite, so even half a burrito is still a multi-group FODMAP dose.
Gentler alternatives
