Is Anheuser-Busch Bud Light low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

20

Low FODMAP

Yes — a single 12-ounce Bud Light is one of the safer beer orders around. It's brewed from just five ingredients — water, barley malt, rice, yeast, and hops — and the rice adjunct plus a thorough fermentation leave very little residual carbohydrate, roughly 4.6 grams per can. The fructans that make barley-based foods a problem are mostly consumed by the yeast during brewing, so what actually reaches your glass carries a small fermentable load at one standard serving. Two caveats still apply. First, alcohol itself is a gut irritant independent of FODMAPs — it can speed up motility and irritate the gut lining even when a drink's carb content is trivial, so stacking several cans changes the picture regardless of the recipe. Second, carbonation means swallowed gas, which some people feel as bloating or pressure on top of anything the drink contains. Keep it to one or two, have it with food rather than on an empty stomach, and Bud Light is unlikely to be the thing that ruins the night.

What's inside

Barley maltThe grain source of fructans, but fermentation consumes most of them — little survives into a finished light lager.
RiceA low-FODMAP adjunct grain that dilutes the barley share of the grain bill compared with all-malt beers.
HopsBittering flowers contribute aroma and bitterness, not fermentable carbohydrate.
Alcohol (4.2% ABV)A gut irritant in its own right — can speed motility and irritate the gut lining independent of any FODMAP content.
CarbonationDissolved CO2 adds gas to the stomach, which bloat-prone drinkers can feel as pressure.

📏 Figures are per 12-oz can or bottle (~4.6 g carbs). A bucket-of-beers night stacks both the carb load and the alcohol irritation — the serving count matters more than the brand.

Gentler alternatives

Michelob UltraSame bar, same style, but brewed even drier — about 2.6 g residual carbs per 12 oz.

Gin or vodka with club soda and limeDistilled spirits carry no fermentable carbs, and soda water keeps the mixer FODMAP-free.

Dry white wine (5-oz pour)Fermentation leaves little sugar in a dry wine, so one glass is a comparably small fermentable load.
