Is White Claw Hard Seltzer low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

20

Low FODMAP

Mostly yes — nearly every White Claw flavor lands low on FODMAP load, and the differences between flavors are small. The base is the same across the range: purified carbonated water, an alcohol base fermented from cane sugar, natural flavors, citric acid, and sodium citrate. Most flavors — Black Cherry, Mango, Raspberry, Ruby Grapefruit, Watermelon, Natural Lime, Tangerine, Lemon, Strawberry, Blackberry — add a touch of cane sugar plus a small amount of the named fruit's juice concentrate, while a few (Pineapple, Grape, Peach, Blood Orange) skip the cane sugar and rely on juice concentrate alone. Either way, a 12 oz can carries only about 2 g of total carbs, so even the concentrates that lean excess-fructose or polyol on paper — mango, black cherry, watermelon — show up in trace amounts. Cane sugar itself is plain sucrose, a balanced glucose-fructose pairing that is not a FODMAP concern. The bigger variable is the alcohol: at 5% ABV, alcohol is a gut irritant in its own right and can speed motility regardless of FODMAP content, and carbonation adds fizz that easily bloated stomachs may notice. If you want the lowest-load pick in the lineup, the lighter citrus flavors keep juice concentrate to a minimum.

What's inside

Alcohol base (fermented cane sugar)No meaningful fermentable carbs survive fermentation, but alcohol itself irritates the gut and can speed motility.
Cane sugar (most flavors)Plain sucrose — a balanced glucose-fructose sugar — at roughly 2 g per can.
Fruit juice concentrate (flavor-dependent)Mango, black cherry, and watermelon concentrates lean excess-fructose or polyol, though only trace amounts are used.
Natural flavorsAroma compounds, not fermentable carbohydrates.
Citric acid and sodium citrateAcidity regulators with no FODMAP content.

📏 One 12 oz can is a small FODMAP dose in any flavor; citrus flavors carry the least juice concentrate, and a second or third can stacks alcohol's gut-irritant effect faster than it stacks FODMAPs.

Gentler alternatives

Vodka soda with fresh limeDistilled vodka carries no fermentable carbs and plain soda water skips juice concentrate entirely.

Dry white wineA standard glass of a dry style has fermented most of its sugar out, keeping residual fermentables low.

Tequila with soda waterDistillation leaves the agave fructans behind, so a tequila-soda stays a low-FODMAP order at the same bar.
