Is Food for Life Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Whole Grain Bread low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
76
High FODMAP
No for elimination — and 'sprouted' doesn't make it low FODMAP. The label is genuinely flourless: organic sprouted wheat, sprouted barley, malted barley, sprouted millet, sprouted spelt — plus sprouted lentils and sprouted soybeans. Sprouting does reduce fructan levels somewhat compared with unsprouted grain, and that nuance is real, but sprouted wheat is still the first ingredient and barley appears twice, so each dense slice delivers a meaningful fructan dose. The lentils and soybeans add a second FODMAP family — GOS — which most wheat breads don't have, meaning every slice tests two FODMAP groups at once. There is nothing else on the label to worry about: no added sugar of any kind, no HFCS, no inulin, no dairy — just grains, legumes, filtered water, yeast, wheat gluten, and sea salt. That makes it a clean, whole-food loaf that simply carries a moderate-to-high FODMAP load by nature. If you already know you tolerate both wheat and legumes reasonably well, one slice may work fine; if you're still mapping your triggers, this bread's grain-plus-legume combination makes any reaction harder to interpret, not easier.
What's inside
📏 Flourless sprouted slices are dense, so one slice is the sensible test dose — and note that toasting changes texture, not FODMAP content. Two slices doubles both the fructan and GOS load.
Gentler alternatives
↳True long-fermented sourdough spelt bread — Spelt starts lower in fructans and slow fermentation reduces them further — the closest hearty-bread swap.
↳Traditional long-fermented white sourdough — Fermentation consumes most wheat fructans, with no legume GOS in the mix.
↳Schar Artisan Baker Multigrain — A grain-forward gluten-free loaf with no wheat, barley, or legumes on the label.
