Is McCormick Italian Seasoning low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

10

Low FODMAP

Plain Italian seasoning is one of the safest jars in the US spice aisle. McCormick's classic blend is nothing but dried herbs — marjoram, basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, savory, and sage — with no garlic, onion, salt, sugar, or fillers anywhere on the label. Dried leafy herbs at shake-to-teaspoon servings carry no meaningful FODMAP load, so seasoning a whole pot of sauce with this jar doesn't move the needle. The reason to stay alert is that not every jar wearing the name is built the same: some store brands and 'Italian seasoning with garlic,' 'Tuscan,' or 'zesty' variants add dried garlic or dried onion, and dehydrated alliums are concentrated fructan sources even inside an herb blend. McCormick's standard Italian Seasoning and its Perfect Pinch Italian Seasoning are both pure-herb as currently sold; the Spicy Italian and Italian dressing-mix packets are different products with meaningfully different labels. The habit that keeps this category easy: read the ingredient statement once, and if it lists only herbs, use it as freely as you like — the herbs themselves are not the variable that matters.

What's inside

OreganoPure dried herb; no meaningful FODMAP load at any shake-size serving.
BasilSame story; leafy herbs are not the variable that matters in a blend.
Marjoram, thyme, and rosemaryThe rest of McCormick's list is equally inert herb matter.
Savory and sageRound out the blend; still just dried herbs.
Dried garlic (in some other brands' versions)Not in McCormick's blend, but 'with garlic' and 'Tuscan-style' variants add it — scan the label before assuming.

📏 Shake-size to full-teaspoon servings of a pure-herb blend carry no meaningful FODMAP load — dose isn't the concern here, label variants are.

Gentler alternatives

Single-herb jars mixed at home (oregano + basil + thyme)Full control of the blend — guarantees no dried garlic or onion sneaks in via a variant label.

Fresh basil and oreganoBrighter flavor for sauces with zero label-reading required.
