Is Ryvita Original Crispbread low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

58

Moderate

Ryvita Original is a cautious maybe — the label could hardly be cleaner (wholegrain rye flour, rye flour, salt, with 88g of wholegrain rye per 100g), but rye is one of the most fructan-dense grains on the shelf. What keeps it out of the high band is the format: each slice is a thin, dry crispbread of roughly 10g, so the grain in a single slice is a fraction of what a slice of rye bread carries. One crispbread with a low FODMAP topping is a reasonable bet for many people; the fructans climb steeply once you stack two, three or four into a lunch, which is exactly how crispbread tends to get eaten. There is nothing else on the label to worry about — no wheat as an ingredient, no honey, no inulin, no dried fruit, and none of the onion or garlic powder that creeps into so many savoury crackers. The pack does carry a 'may contain other gluten sources and sesame' note, but that is an allergen cross-contact issue, separate from FODMAP content. Portion discipline is the entire game here: as a one-slice base it behaves; as a bread replacement it does not.

What's inside

Wholegrain Rye Flour (88%)Rye is exceptionally fructan-rich; the small dry slice is the only thing keeping the per-serve load down.
Rye FlourMore of the same grain — the whole product is effectively rye.
SaltNo FODMAP relevance.

📏 One ~10g slice is the sensible unit; using several as a bread substitute multiplies the rye fructans quickly.

Gentler alternatives

Kallo Thick Slice Rice CakesRice is among the lowest-FODMAP grains, and plain rice cakes fill the same topping-carrier role on every UK shelf.

Real Foods Corn ThinsThin corn crispbreads widely sold in UK supermarkets — the closest match to Ryvita's snap without the rye.

Schär Gluten Free CrispbreadA free-from-aisle crispbread with no rye or wheat, for when you want the format at more than one slice.
