Is Glaceau Vitaminwater (Original Nutrient Enhanced Water) low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

74

High FODMAP

Classic Vitaminwater is not low FODMAP: its number-two ingredient is crystalline fructose, a sweetener that is nearly pure fructose with no glucose alongside to help absorb it, so a 20 oz bottle delivers a large excess-fructose load. Cane sugar further down the label is balanced sucrose and is not the problem — the crystalline fructose is what drives the verdict. The Zero Sugar line swaps in erythritol and stevia, which trades fructose for a polyol that can also bother sensitive guts in volume.

What's inside

Crystalline fructoseAbout 98% pure fructose with no paired glucose, so most of it counts as excess fructose — the classic malabsorption trigger, multiplied across a 20 oz bottle.
Cane sugarPlain sucrose is a balanced 50/50 glucose-fructose pair, which is low FODMAP on its own — it is not what makes this drink risky.
Erythritol (Zero Sugar line only)A sugar alcohol that is better tolerated than sorbitol or maltitol but can still cause bloating in larger volumes, and a 20 oz bottle is a large volume.
Vitamins and electrolyte saltsAdded vitamins, calcium/magnesium lactates, and potassium phosphate carry no fermentable carbohydrates.

📏 A 20 oz bottle is labeled as 2.5 servings but is usually drunk in one sitting, which multiplies the crystalline-fructose dose; even a half bottle carries a meaningful excess-fructose load.

Gentler alternatives

Sparkling water with a squeeze of citrusHydration and flavor with essentially zero fermentable-carb load.

Electrolyte tablets or drops in plain waterReplaces the electrolyte appeal without crystalline fructose or polyols.

Vitaminwater Zero Sugar (small serve)Drops the fructose entirely; keep portions modest since its erythritol can still bloat in full-bottle volumes.
