Is Marmite Original Yeast Extract Spread low FODMAP?

Low FODMAP
Yes — Marmite Original is low FODMAP at the servings anyone actually uses, making it one of the safest savoury spreads on UK shelves. The label is five lines long: yeast extract (with barley, wheat, oat and rye declared), salt, vegetable juice concentrate, added B vitamins, and a natural flavouring containing celery. Yeast extract itself is low FODMAP at spread-level servings, and a typical scrape on toast is around 4 g — a dose at which fructan carryover from the brewing cereals is trivial. The cereal and celery mentions are allergen declarations, not signs of a meaningful fermentable load: relevant if you avoid gluten for separate reasons, but not a problem at a teaspoon. The vegetable juice concentrate isn't itemised, yet it sits behind salt in a product measured out by the gram. One genuine watch-out: this verdict is for the classic Original jar. The Marmite XO variant adds onion juice concentrate to its recipe, so don't assume every jar wearing the Marmite name is equal if onion is a trigger for you. Stirred into mince or gravy, or scraped on toast, Original Marmite is about as clean as umami gets.
What's inside
📏 A typical serving is a thin scrape — about 4 g, a teaspoon at most — and at that dose the fermentable load is negligible. Stick to the Original jar: the XO variant adds onion juice concentrate.
Gentler alternatives
↳Vegemite — The same yeast-extract concept with no onion in the recipe, used at identical scrape-thin servings.
↳Bovril — The beefy cousin — another concentrated extract used by the teaspoon in gravies and hot drinks.
↳Whole-nut peanut butter — If you want a different savoury toast option entirely, 100% peanut spreads are low FODMAP at normal servings.
