Is Metamucil Psyllium Fiber Powder low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
18
Low FODMAP
Yes — psyllium husk, the active fiber in every Metamucil powder, is a low-FODMAP fiber. Psyllium is a mucilage that mostly gels and holds water rather than being fermented into gas, which is why it tends to be one of the gentler fibers for sensitive guts. The Orange Smooth 'real sugar' tub lists sucrose first, but plain table sugar is balanced glucose and fructose, so it doesn't change the verdict.
What's inside
📏 Mix each dose into a full glass of water and ramp up from one serving daily — under-diluted psyllium is where most complaints come from. The sugar-free versions swap sucrose for maltodextrin and aspartame, neither of which is a FODMAP.
Gentler alternatives
↳Benefiber (wheat dextrin) — Also low FODMAP and dissolves clear and tasteless if you dislike Metamucil's gritty texture.
↳Plain psyllium husk powder — The same fiber without sugar, flavors, or dyes.
↳Metamucil Sugar-Free Orange Smooth — Same psyllium base with the 16g of sugar per serving removed.
