Is Tabasco Original Red Pepper Sauce low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
6
Low FODMAP
Yes — Tabasco Original is about as clean as a US hot sauce gets for a low FODMAP approach, because the entire label is three ingredients: distilled vinegar, red pepper, and salt. There is no garlic, no onion, no high fructose corn syrup, no honey — none of the usual condiment tripwires appears anywhere on the bottle. Distilled vinegar carries no meaningful FODMAPs, aged red peppers are a low FODMAP food, and salt contributes nothing on this front, so there is no ingredient to cap and no serving-size fine print to memorize. The one honest footnote is that chile heat is its own variable: capsaicin is not a FODMAP, and a fiery meal can be unwelcome for some sensitive stomachs regardless of FODMAP content, so the burn — not the biochemistry — is the only reason to go easy. If you want the same garlic- and onion-free cleanliness with less fire, the Green Jalapeño version of the sauce fits the same bill. As a plate-side shake, this is the default garlic-free hot sauce pick in the US grocery store.
What's inside
📏 No FODMAP-based serving cap — the label has no FODMAP sources at any realistic dose; only the chile heat itself limits how many shakes you use.
Gentler alternatives
↳Tabasco Green Jalapeño — Same garlic- and onion-free formula family (distilled vinegar, jalapeño, water, salt) with milder heat.
↳Crushed red pepper flakes — Single-ingredient heat you can pinch onto anything, no label to read.
↳Plain cayenne powder — One-ingredient pantry heat for cooking when you don't want vinegar tang.
