Is ponzu low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

15

Low FODMAP

Yes — Ponzu is low FODMAP in normal servings and is generally well tolerated by people with IBS.

Low-FODMAP serving

2 tbsp (42 ml)

Becomes high FODMAP at

bottles listing fructose-glucose syrup, honey or garlic, at any amount

Ponzu is soy sauce thinned with citrus juice, vinegar and a little sugar, so a dipping serve carries less soy sauce than the same volume of straight soy sauce, and published testing puts soy sauce in the low range at 2 tbsp. Some Japanese bottles list fructose-glucose syrup or honey, which adds excess fructose, and a few add garlic or onion, so check the label on unfamiliar brands.

Usually it's a portion difference, not a disagreement. This page scores ponzu at a serving of 2 tbsp (42 ml); at bottles listing fructose-glucose syrup, honey or garlic, at any amount it belongs in the high band. A source quoting the larger serve will call it high, and one quoting the smaller will call it low — the same food, measured at two different amounts.
