Is Alpro Almond Drink low FODMAP?

FODMAP score

25

Low FODMAP

Alpro Almond Drink is a low-FODMAP choice at a normal glass — the almond content is so dilute that the fermentable load barely registers. The current UK label reads: water, almond (2.3%), sugar, calcium (calcium carbonate), sea salt, stabilisers (guar gum, gellan gum), natural flavouring, emulsifier (lecithins), potassium iodide and vitamins B12, D2 and E; the No Sugars version is the same list minus the sugar. At 2.3% almonds, a 250ml glass contains under 6g of actual almond — roughly five nuts — so the GOS that makes a large handful of whole almonds risky is a non-issue here. The added sugar is plain sucrose, which is not a FODMAP, and unlike Alpro's oat line there is no chicory root fibre or inulin anywhere on the label. The gums deserve one footnote: guar and gellan gum are not FODMAPs and the amounts are tiny, but a minority of very sensitive guts report noticing thickeners — if this drink bothers you when the label says it should not, that is the ingredient to experiment with. Compared with oat drinks, almond is the easier default when you want a full glass rather than a splash.

What's inside

Almond (2.3%)About five almonds per 250ml glass — far below the quantity where almond GOS becomes a concern.
SugarPlain sucrose is glucose plus fructose in balance — not a FODMAP.
Guar gumNot a FODMAP and used in trace amounts, but some very sensitive guts report noticing thickeners.
Gellan gumA trace-level stabiliser with no meaningful fermentable load.
Calcium carbonate and vitaminsFortification adds no FODMAP load.
LecithinsAn emulsifier, not a fermentable carbohydrate.

📏 One 250ml glass is comfortably low, and the 2.3% almond content means even a refill keeps you well under a risky almond quantity. Pick the No Sugars version if you are watching added sugar — the FODMAP picture is identical.
