Is Alpro Oat Drink low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
68
Moderate
Alpro Oat Drink lands in moderate territory, and the ingredient that tips it there is not the oats — it is the added chicory root fibre. On current UK labels the chilled Original and the No Sugar 1L both list chicory root fibre straight after the oat base (water, oat 9.5%), while some long-life packs use soluble corn fibre instead. Chicory root fibre is inulin, a concentrated fructan, so Alpro effectively stacks an extra fermentable fibre on top of the fructans already present in oats — and unlike oat fructans, which only build up in bigger glasses, the added inulin is in every pour. That is the key difference from plainer oat drinks. The rest of the label is benign: sunflower oil, calcium, sea salt, gellan gum and B and D vitamins carry no FODMAP load. If you are set on Alpro, check your pack — the long-life version with soluble corn fibre is the gentler of the two, and the smaller the serving the better. If oat drink is a daily staple, a brand without added fibres is the easier road.
What's inside
📏 A splash in tea or coffee is the safest use; a full 250ml glass delivers oat fructans plus the added inulin. Check your pack — long-life versions listing soluble corn fibre are gentler than the chilled packs listing chicory root fibre.
Gentler alternatives
↳Oatly Oat Drink Barista Edition — Does the same oat-drink job with no added chicory root fibre — coffee-sized servings stay low.
↳Rude Health Organic Brown Rice Drink — Four-ingredient label on a rice base, one of the gentlest plant milks on UK shelves.
↳Alpro Almond Drink — Alpro's own almond line skips the added fibre; 2.3% almonds keeps the fermentable load minimal at a full glass.
