Is Oatly Oat Drink Barista Edition low FODMAP?
FODMAP score
45
Moderate
Oatly Barista is one of the cleaner oat drinks for a sensitive gut — comfortable as a splash in coffee, with fructans only becoming a question at bigger servings. The UK label reads: water, oats (10%), rapeseed oil, acidity regulator (dipotassium phosphate), minerals (calcium carbonate, potassium iodide), salt and vitamins (D2, riboflavin, B12). Crucially there is no chicory root fibre or inulin — a fermentable extra that several rival oat drinks add — so the only FODMAP source here is the oats themselves. Small servings of oat drink are where most sensitive guts do well, and the roughly 150ml that goes into a flat white sits squarely in that territory. Fructans accumulate with volume, though, so a large 300ml glass, a bowl of cereal drowned in it, or several oat-milk coffees back to back can add up across a morning. One reassurance about the back of the pack: the 3.4g sugars per 100ml are mostly maltose, created when Oatly breaks the oat starch down during production, and maltose is not a FODMAP. Rapeseed oil, the phosphate acidity regulator and the added minerals and vitamins are all inert on the FODMAP front.
What's inside
📏 Low at coffee-splash servings — the ~150ml in a flat white is the sweet spot. Treat large glasses, cereal-bowl quantities or several oat coffees in a row as moderate, since the fructans stack.
Gentler alternatives
↳Arla Lactofree Whole Milk — Steams and stretches like regular milk for coffee, with the lactose removed — a UK supermarket staple.
↳Alpro Almond Drink — Lower fermentable load if you drink big glasses rather than coffee splashes.
↳Rude Health Organic Brown Rice Drink — The cleanest mainstream plant-milk label — just rice, water, sunflower oil and salt.
