Low FODMAP

Mostly yes, with a serving cap — Lea & Perrins The Original Worcestershire Sauce works for a low FODMAP approach as long as you use it the way it was designed: in dashes. The current US label reads distilled white vinegar, molasses, sugar, water, salt, onions, anchovies, garlic, cloves, tamarind extract, natural flavorings, and chili pepper extract. Onions and garlic really are in there, which is why this bottle makes people nervous, but both sit behind salt on the ingredient list and are heavily diluted in an intensely concentrated sauce. At the few-dashes-to-2-tablespoons level most recipes actually call for, the fructan contribution per serving is small. The molasses adds a moderate note of caution — its fructose load only becomes relevant in bigger pours. The base of distilled white vinegar, sugar, and anchovies carries no meaningful FODMAP load at all. Where this sauce loses its pass is volume: a marinade or Bloody Mary mix built on a quarter cup starts stacking onion, garlic, and molasses into one dish. Season with it; don't soak in it.

What's inside

OnionsA genuine fructan source, but it sits low on the label and each dash delivers very little.
GarlicConcentrated fructans; negligible in a splash, cumulative if you pour by the tablespoon-plus.
MolassesCarries a moderate fructose load that only matters in larger pours.
Distilled white vinegarDistilled vinegar contributes tang with no FODMAP load.
AnchoviesPure savory protein; no FODMAPs.

📏 A few dashes up to about 2 tablespoons is generally comfortable. Quarter-cup-plus uses like marinades or drink mixes stack the onion, garlic, and molasses and push this into risky territory.
