Usually it's a portion difference, not a disagreement. This page scores pineapple at a serving of 1 cup chopped fresh (140 g); at 1 1/2 cups chopped (250 g) and above it belongs in the high band. A source quoting the larger serve will call it high, and one quoting the smaller will call it low — the same food, measured at two different amounts.
Based on published FODMAP research and reviewed reference data. Informational only — not medical advice. Tolerance is individual; verify with a dietitian during the elimination phase.
How much is OK?
This food's verdict depends on the serving. The bands below show where the load builds, group by group.
Fructans
Fresh pineapple is generous compared with most tropical fruit, with fructans building only past about a cup. Canned pineapple has a tighter window because the fruit sits in sugar: roughly 95 g drained when packed in juice and about 65 g drained when packed in syrup - always tip off and rinse the packing liquid. Dried pineapple concentrates fructans around 4-5x by weight, so about 25 g is already a middling amount and 50 g is well past it. Juice removes the fibre and stacks several portions into one glass.
Bands reflect published FODMAP research for typical preparations — individual tolerance varies, especially mid-reintroduction.
