Usually it's a portion difference, not a disagreement. This page scores watermelon at a serving of 1 1/2 tbsp cubed (15 g); at 2 tbsp cubed (30 g) it belongs in the high band. A source quoting the larger serve will call it high, and one quoting the smaller will call it low — the same food, measured at two different amounts.
Based on published FODMAP research and reviewed reference data. Informational only — not medical advice. Tolerance is individual; verify with a dietitian during the elimination phase.
How much is OK?
This food's verdict depends on the serving. The bands below show where the load builds, group by group.
Excess Fructose
Watermelon is one of the few fruits carrying three FODMAP groups at once, and fructose is the first to climb — a tested 24 g serve is already moderate. Use it as a garnish in a fruit salad rather than filling a bowl of its own.
Fructans
Fructans are just as tight a limit here: by half a cup (75 g) they are several times over the low cut-off. A few small cubes is the practical ceiling.
Mannitol
Mannitol is the slowest of the three to build and only matters near the 1 cup (150 g) mark — by which point the fructose and fructans are already high, so they set the real ceiling.
Bands reflect published FODMAP research for typical preparations — individual tolerance varies, especially mid-reintroduction.
